Sieve & Meyer
Multilevel frequency inverter
The 'SD4M' from Sieb & Meyer is equipped with 'three-level technology'. The compact frequency inverter is suitable for high-speed flow machines and HSC milling machines, for example in the aerospace sector.
The device variants in the 70 to 490 kW and 120 to 800 A rated current range have been adopted from the predecessor series 'SD2M' in terms of power electronics. In the new power class with 70 kW and 120 A, the 'SD4M' expands the current power range and thus closes the gap in Sieb & Meyer's frequency inverter portfolio. The multi-protocol real-time Ethernet interface (including Profinet IO, Ethercat), which is available as standard, makes it easy to implement the frequency inverter in the higher-level control system. Device variants with DC supply can be operated via an external regenerative power supply unit.
According to the manufacturer, the three-level technology paired with device-dependent switching frequencies of up to 32 kHz ensures very good power quality, so that only low losses occur in the motor and the overall efficiency increases accordingly. Excessive rotor heating is prevented in this way, even without expensive sinusoidal filters or motor chokes. In addition, the three-level technology results in less stress on the motor insulation.
As an option, the frequency inverter can be further optimized for use in turbo compressors. For example, it is possible to supply active magnetic bearings with the necessary DC voltage via terminal connections and to maintain this voltage for braking even in the event of a fault.
