Schunk - Automated for optimum gripping

Schunk has developed the 2D Grasping Kit for handling individual objects randomly arranged on a plane. Following the 'MTB' application kits for the simple partial automation of machine loading and unloading, this is a further module with which Schunk provides customers with a ready-made automation solution. The 2D gripping kit consists of a camera system including lens, an application-specific gripping system, an industrial PC 'SVC' and a plug-in for simple integration into the robot controller. The core is AI software developed by Schunk, which ensures recognition even under changing visual conditions. All components in the kit are perfectly matched to each other for process reliability.

And this is how it works: the camera system reliably detects workpieces on a defined level, even in difficult lighting conditions, and calculates possible grips including collision checks. The workpieces no longer need to be sorted or positioned in advance; the user can retain their existing processes. During workpiece detection, AI is used to search for previously defined objects. The software uses the interference contours of the fingers and the workpiece previously defined in the software to calculate how the workpiece can be gripped collision-free in the defined workspace. After detection, collision-free grips and approach points are automatically calculated within seconds and transferred to the robot.
