VMT - Foreign object detection for joining and assembly processes
The 3D vision solution ClearSpace 3D from VMT detects foreign objects in automated joining and assembly processes. Interfering objects such as screws, tools, splinters or other small parts are detected in a two-stage measuring process. The vision system is designed so that it can be equipped with VMT's own 3D sensors as well as with 3D sensors from other manufacturers and technologies, such as laser triangulation sensors. The measurement results are evaluated during operation in the VMT MSS software platform. In applications implemented to date, the two-stage evaluation process makes it possible to first detect larger foreign objects with dimensions from 10 mm and to detect objects with dimensions from 5 mm using downstream fine detection. Depending on the sensor technology selected, this grid can be scaled in both directions.
