Without drive technology - in the truest sense of the word - nothing would turn in most machines and systems. Computer&AUTOMATION presents the latest innovations in this automation discipline in a series of pictures.

With the TMC2300, Trinamic offers a solution for battery-operated stepper motors: according to the manufacturer, the TMC2300 is the world's smallest single-chip motor driver with StealthChop, StallGuard and CoolStep as well as particularly low power consumption. With a standby current consumption of <50 nA, the 2-phase stepper motor driver opens up possible applications for motors in portable devices and IoT environments. It is powered by one to two Li-ion cells or two AA batteries (input voltage up to 1.8 V. This makes it particularly suitable for battery-powered applications and handheld or POS devices. In addition, the motor driver is well equipped for IoT devices such as smart radiator valves in home automation and devices in medical applications. The combination of StealthChop2 and StallGuard4 allows, for example, sensorless homing, eliminating the need for limit switches in product designs. This opens up new use cases for portable devices. The motor driver will be available from fall 2019.
