Automation specialists are optimistic about 2018

A good year is on the horizon for the automation industry, as Dr. Gunther Kegel, Chairman of the Board of the ZVEI Automation Association, announced at the Hannover Messe 2018. 2017 was also a successful year for German automation companies. The figures in detail.

"It's been a while since we've been able to show growth figures like these!" said Dr. Gunther Kegel at the presentation of the Automation Association's figures at the Hannover Messe 2018.

The automation industry got off to a good start in 2018. In January and February 2018, the industry grew again in terms of incoming orders (+10.7%). Production grew by 7.4% in January and February. Turnover amounted to 8.5 billion euros. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 8.3%. "Another good year is on the horizon for the automation industry," says Dr. Gunther Kegel from the ZVEI Automation Association. "If the situation on the international political stage does not worsen, the ZVEI expects growth in the high single-digit range for the automation industry in 2018."

The past year was another successful one for German automation companies: industry turnover rose by 7.4% to EUR 53.9 billion. The overall very positive development was driven by orders from China, the USA and Central Europe. "The good economic situation is also having an impact on the number of our employees: We recorded an increase of 2.3% to just under 271,000 employees at the end of December 2017," says Kegel.
