Smart control cabinets thanks to new Ethernet/IP technology
Rockwell Automation is launching an Ethernet/IP control cabinet solution. The aim of this further development is to meet the growing demand for smarter, faster and better networked production processes.
When companies want to increase productivity and reduce downtime, they often find traditional hardwired control panels to be an obstacle because they limit data access and make system upgrades difficult. According to the company, Rockwell Automation 's Ethernet/IP control panel solution overcomes these challenges by optimizing communication between devices and the control panel, simplifying system integration and improving real-time data access.
"Our Ethernet/IP cabinet solution is a game changer in industrial connectivity," said Kelly Passineau, product manager at Rockwell Automation. "By using single-pair Ethernet/IP technology, we enable our customers to reduce installation time, increase operational efficiency and integrate wired components into a smarter, data-driven network."
Early adopters are already reaping the benefits. Volga, a system integrator partner of Rockwell Automation, specializes in electrical and mechanical control and automation technology. The Brazil-based manufacturer reported huge improvements following the introduction of the control cabinet solution: "With the Ethernet/IP control cabinet solution, we were able to reduce our installation time by a good 65 percent and wire starters and control elements in the control cabinet in little more than an hour," says Carlos Leopoldo, Commercial Director at Volga. "In addition to the significant time savings, this system offers numerous benefits to our panel builders, including space efficiency, customizable control panel colors, a reduction in inventory units, minimized risk of incorrect connections and easier inspections. It's a well-designed solution that offers greater efficiency and reliability for both panel builders and end customers through improved communication, diagnostics and easier maintenance."
According to the manufacturer, the main advantages of the solution are
- Faster installation: By applying the recommended standards, wiring time can be reduced by up to 80 percent compared to conventional hard-wired installations.
- Optimized space utilization: The compact design enables efficient use of cabinet space, allowing more devices to be installed in the same footprint and reducing the overall size of the cabinet.
- Improved data access: Fast real-time communication between devices increases productivity.
- Scalability: Expansions and adaptations to future network requirements can be carried out effortlessly and without major changes to the infrastructure.
In addition, the plug-and-play design enables easy configuration, commissioning and maintenance, thus reducing production downtime.
