Statement by Thilo Brodtmann, VDMA
"Nuclear power plant compromise only helps if other measures also work"
Extending the operating life of nuclear power plants is not enough, says VDMA Managing Director Thilo Brodtmann. He is calling for further measures.
VDMA Managing Director Thilo Brodtmann comments on Chancellor Olaf Scholz's decision to extend the operation of three German nuclear power plants until April 2023 and also to introduce an energy efficiency law:
"The Federal Chancellor has used his power to issue directives to find a last-minute compromise in the dispute over the continued operation of Germany's nuclear power plants. That was the right decision. However, this compromise can only work if the energy efficiency law he announced is successfully passed and implemented and if the targeted renewable energy capacities are actually added in the coming year. The conditions for this must now be improved in the short term and really noticeably."
