Interview with David Bedford Guaus, Inovance
Next-Gen Wireless Motion for Industry 4.0
From AC drives to cobots, Inovance showcases a complete automation solution at SPS 2025. 'INO AIR', the new wireless servo system, enables precise, real-time motion control without complex wiring. An Interview with David Bedford Guaus.
What exactly can visitors to SPS 2025 expect from the new wireless servo control system, and what makes it technically so special?
Visitors to SPS 2025 will be able to preview Inovance's latest addition to its product portfolio for the first time in Europe: 'INO AIR', a real-time wireless control solution for servo technology. As an innovation-driven company, Inovance continually seeks new ways to serve the European market, and INO AIR represents the latest breakthrough. This technology drastically reduces the need for complex wiring, which otherwise often involves significant costs for specialized cables and installation time. With INO AIR, no wiring is required beyond the power supply. It features a built-in wireless communication bus for maximum flexibility, enabling easy installation and diagnostics. EtherCAT-compatible, the wireless servo system delivers a 1 ms bus cycle time, 1 µs jitter, and over 99.99% reliability, ensuring smooth, accurate, and repeatable performance.
At SPS, Inovance's Total Automation Solution will also be showcased, covering the full automation range: AC drives, servos, motion control, HMIs, industrial robots, andsupporting software.
How does Inovance ensure real-time coordination in the microsecond range despite wireless communication?
INO AIR is the result of extensive research and development over several years, aimed at creating a completely new technology capable of achieving a 1 ms real-time target. With a wireless range of 100 meters, it has already proven highly successful with many customers in China, who are using the solution in their machines.
This high performance is achieved through ultra-short-frame transmission and deterministic scheduling, allowing microsecond-level coordination even over a wireless link.
In which industrial applications do you see the greatest potential for the new wireless servos?
Thanks to its wireless range, high reliability, and the increased machine configuration flexibility it enables, INO AIR can be applied in a wide variety of industrial scenarios. Applications with the greatest potential include cabinetless machines with integrated servo motor drives and rotating machinery, where servos are mounted directly on the moving part, eliminating expensive slip rings and reducing maintenance.
The primary goal of these applications is to reduce machine cost by using fewer components and minimizing labor. Wireless technology helps by eliminating complex control wiring between servos and adjacent control elements. For example, INO AIR has already been successfully deployed in wireless labeling applications, replacing hundreds of meters of cabling while maintaining microsecond-level coordination.
What further developments or product variants in wireless motion control is Inovance planning?
Following the success of INO AIR, Inovance is developing additional wireless products, including wireless AC drives, wireless I/O modules, and wireless PLCs. The company's long-term vision is to provide customers with a complete wireless industrial automation solution, enabling smaller cabinets and greater system flexibility. While wireless solutions will complement rather than replace wired systems, the aim is to give customers both options, depending on their specific needs.
