Software developers in high demand
There are currently 51,000 vacancies for IT specialists in Germany, an increase of almost 20 percent compared to the previous year. At that time, 43,000 vacancies were counted. Where are they looking?
This is the result of the latest study on the labor market for IT specialists, which the digital association Bitkom presented today in the run-up to the 10th National IT Summit (November 16-17). In the representative survey, more than 1,500 managing directors and HR managers from companies in all sectors were questioned.
Seven out of ten ICT companies (70%) state that there is currently a shortage of IT specialists. A year ago, the figure was only 60%. There are 20,500 unfilled vacancies in companies in the IT and telecommunications sector. Software providers and IT service providers are particularly on the lookout, with 17,400 vacancies in this sector alone.
2,200 experts are being sought by companies offering IT hardware and communications technology or consumer electronics. There are 900 vacancies among providers of telecommunications services. Companies are primarily looking for software experts. 6 out of 10 digital companies (60%) that have vacancies for IT specialists are looking for software developers. They are particularly looking for expertise in big data (47% of companies looking for software developers), cloud computing (40%) and apps (36%).
The demand for developers with knowledge of Industry 4.0 has risen sharply - these are in demand from 35% of companies with jobs for developers, compared to just 23% a year ago. In addition to software developers, ICT companies are increasingly looking for IT consultants (21% of companies with unfilled IT vacancies), compared to just 14% a year ago. Application managers and administrators (21%) and IT security experts (17%) are also in demand.
There are currently 30,500 vacancies for IT experts at user companies. The demand for application administrators and administrators is falling (from 44% to 37% of companies with vacant IT positions), while the demand for software developers continues to rise (from 27% to 31%). In addition, user companies are increasingly looking for IT security experts (17%) and IT consultants (14%).
More than a thousand participants from politics, business, science and society are expected to attend the 10th National IT Summit in Saarbrücken on November 16 and 17, 2016.
