Meinrad Happacher,

A record number of visitors for the anniversary

The 'SPS - Industrial Automation Fair Guangzhou' (SIAF) took place for the 10th time at the beginning of March and attracted a record number of visitors. Together with Asiamold, which was held at the same time, the three-day trade fair attracted almost 99,000 visitors, an increase of 37%.

The 10th edition of SIAF once again took place from March 10 to 12 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou alongside Asiamold - with an overwhelming response: the two trade fairs attracted 988 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions (2018: 896) and recorded a record number of 98,776 trade visitors. This corresponds to 37% more visitors than in the previous year.

With over 16,000 visitors, Asiamold is the smaller of the two events and focuses on additive manufacturing, molding and 3D printing technologies, all of which use industrial automation technology.

The more popular SIAF (82,133 visitors) is based on the SPS trade fair concept in Nuremberg and is dedicated to industrial automation. This year's SIAF demonstrated the technological advances in industrial automation based on six core product categories. One of the standout categories is the Industrial Internet, which debuted at SIAF to open the door for companies seeking digital transformation through the use of industrial software, industrial communication, industrial cloud platform and cybersecurity technology. Other product categories include electrical systems, connectivity technologies, sensing and industrial measurement devices and smart logistics solutions to meet the diverse sourcing needs of international and domestic buyers. It was interesting to see that the term 'Industry 4.0' was used much less frequently on the stands than in previous years. German automation companies such as Beckhoff Automation, Cognex, Harting, Phoenix Contact, Pepperl+Fuchs and Sick have also been represented for years.

In addition to product innovations, SIAF also offered practical forums - such as the Smart Industry Solutions Summit or the 'Machine Vision' session - for exchanging market information and future industry developments.

The next SIAF will take place from February 26 to 28, 2020.
