Track & Trace for pressing plants
German Edge Cloud and Schuler cooperate
Offering a 'Track & Trace' solution for press shops is the aim of the strategic cooperation between German Edge Cloud and Schuler.
The plant manufacturer Schuler will offer this within its Digital Suite. This function is based on the technology of edge and cloud systems specialist German Edge Cloud. The joint solution enables seamless traceability within production processes. In the event of a recall in the automotive industry, for example, the entire supply chain can be traced and the cause of the fault quickly identified.
German Edge Cloud supplied a central software module for the 'Track & Trace' system. Schuler is also developing additional modules according to the 'user-centered design' approach. The front end can be run on various mobile devices. As a first step, the application enables traceability. In the future, it will also be designed for connection to overarching systems and programs such as SAP ERP and form the basis for artificial intelligence (AI) for production optimization.
First pilot project
The joint 'Track & Trace' solution from Schuler and German Edge Cloud is already being tested in the Smart Press Shop, an intelligent, fully networked press shop for the flexible production of car body parts. The plant was built on a 13-hectare site in Halle an der Saale and went into operation in June of this year.
The aim of the project is to raise the production efficiency and digitalization of important process steps in automotive production to a new level for forming technology. In addition, shorter logistics routes reduce production-related CO2 emissions and enable a 'zero impact factory' in the long term. The Smart Press Shop presses parts and produces assemblies for Porsche AG and other Volkswagen Group brands. Further OEMs are to follow.
