Inka Krischke,

Radio gateway for 5G applications

With the development of the 'Wireless Bolt 5G', HMS Networks is expanding its 'Wireless Bolt' series of wireless gateways with a variant that supports data transmission via 5G.

Like the other wireless gateways in the series from HMS Networks, this one also offers an innovative design, IP67 design with integrated antenna and simple installation. All that is required for installation is an M50 opening. The gateway can then be mounted on any flat surface, such as a device housing or control cabinet. The connection to the internal controls of a mobile robot or an automation device, for example, is made through this mounting opening. The gateway can be used as a simple mobile router that connects both stationary machines and mobile devices to higher-level private or public 5G infrastructures with transparent data transmission. It can also be used for the deterministic transmission of industrial communication protocols such as Profinet and its safety protocol extensions. This allows mobile applications to be permanently connected to their central control system in order to reliably exchange safe (safety) and non-safe signals (process data). This enables the solution to be used in more complex applications, not only in goods transportation, but also for mobile robots. In addition, the gateway is planned as an edge computing variant to host customized software applications in software containers (Docker) close to the machine to perform specific tasks.
