Gateway connects Ethercat with CAN FD

With the 'CAN-EtherCAT/2-FD', esd electronics presents a stand-alone gateway that allows a direct connection from CAN FD to Ethercat.

The module enables the seamless integration of modern CAN FD communication into real-time Ethercat systems, without dependence on proprietary I/O platforms or control systems. The gateway is aimed at industrial users who want to efficiently integrate CAN FD components into real-time systems, for example in mechanical and plant engineering or in test bench technology. A typical field of application is the automated component testing of CAN FD-capable control units and sensors in the automotive sector. The gateway can be integrated directly into Ethercat-based test systems and transmits CAN FD messages with up to 64 bytes of user data almost latency-free into the Ethercat communication of the test bench, without additional software gateways or dedicated PC systems. Thanks to standardized SubDevice functionality according to ETG.5001 (module profile 5000), the gateway can be configured and controlled via common Ethercat master tools (e.g. Twincat, Codesys). This simplifies test stand automation, as test sequences and real-time data can be processed synchronously in the Ethercat network.
