New from Weidmüller is an SSI module for the 'u-remote' remote I/O system, with which SSI absolute encoders can be connected decentrally. With the single-channel SSI module, users can connect all standard SSI encoders and communicate bidirectionally with the master via various fieldbuses. The module uses the SSI standard for demanding positioning tasks. Thanks to the real-time capable system bus of the remote I/O system, even the fastest positioning tasks can be automated with the SSI module - at an internal transfer rate of 48 MBit/s, according to the manufacturer. Fieldbus integration is also simple: users can flexibly parameterize the transmission rate, data format and data width. The module is equally suitable for 5 V and 24 V SSI encoders, even in fast applications. An FE connection also allows direct connection of the required cable shield. Various transmission rates can be parameterized for the single-channel SSI module (RS422 differential signal): 125 kHz, 250 kHz, 500 kHz, 1 MHz, 1.5 MHz and 2 MHz. The delay time can also be set between 1 and 64 µs. The data width is 8 to 32 bits, with binary and gray code data formats. The SSI mode can be selected as listening or master mode. The maximum cable length is 320 m at 125 kHz; the cable is shielded.
