Thanks to the drag-and-drop environment, they can model physical types and logics as required and analyze systems by intuitively connecting blocks - whether they represent electrical, hydraulic or mechanical components. Hexagon's software is based on the Modelica modeling language, an open standard for creating flexible, customizable models. As the design process progresses and the components and subsystems are detailed in dedicated simulation software, the components can be routinely integrated into a larger system as they are fully compliant with the FMI standard and Hexagon's proprietary SmartFMU technology. SmartFMU enables the Functional Mock-up Unit (FMU) for Hexagon products, allowing changes to be made directly in the Elements system level model without the need for specialized Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software or experienced users.
