Humans and robots work together
From June 21 to 24, Munich was all about the latest developments and trends in robotics - above all the topic of human-robot cooperation and collaboration (HRC).

International Federation of Robotics
Good news from the robotics industry: The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) announced new record figures for the 2015 financial year at Automatica: 248,000 units sold represent an increase of 12% compared to the previous year.

German robotics and automation
Last year, the German robotics and automation industry posted record sales - this was announced by the VDMA at the beginning of June 2016. The association has now broken down its figures further at Automatica 2016.

Automatica, the biennial 'Trade Fair for Automation and Mechatronics', will exceed the number of exhibitors from 2014 this year. Computer&AUTOMATION shows a selection of the new products presented by the 825 or so exhibitors in Munich in a picture gallery.
High-precision positioning systems - in the form of lifting tables, for example - are required in order to precisely position car body components for processing in robot welding lines. Gearboxes and precision drive shafts play a 'supporting' role here to ensure that the robot does not reach into the void.
One of the exhibition areas at Automatica is robotics. A topic that will certainly be the subject of much discussion there: Is the breakthrough of smart robots imminent or how practicable are available concepts of direct human-robot cooperation - and collaboration?

Internet of Things / Industry 4.0
The Fraunhofer Institutes IAO and IPA are planning to build the 'Future Work Lab' - a center that uses demonstrators to bring production work 4.0 to life. Skills development and training courses will also be offered to qualify people for the digital world of work.

The realization of modern concepts for human-robot collaboration requires new sensor solutions. Pilz is presenting a new step mat concept at Automatica. Managing Director Thomas Pilz explains the background.

From June 21 to 24, the automation industry will meet at Automatica in Munich. Taking part for the first time: the accompanying trade fair 'IT2Industry', which focuses on the fusion of IT and industry.

The use of robots in medium-sized companies is increasing rapidly: 81% of automation decision-makers in Germany who took part in the 'Automatica Trend Index' study believe this. The use of collaborative robots in particular appears to have a promising future.
