Over 9,000 employees worldwide for the first time
Although the current economic development is casting its shadow, ifm was once again able to increase its turnover in the 2023 financial year. And the number of employees exceeded the 9,000 mark for the first time.
In the past financial year, a total of 160,000 customers purchased products from ifm, which represents an increase of 4%. The preliminary consolidated financial statements show a new sales record of over EUR 1.4 billion and growth of 3%. "Even though significant negative exchange rate effects halved growth, the increase in conjunction with the growth of the customer base shows us that we can offer the right solutions for our customers worldwide," said Christoph von Rosenberg, CFO of the ifm Group, at the presentation of the 2023 balance sheet figures. The regional focus of growth was in the USA and Southwest Europe. The result (EBIT) was 5.8% (previous year 7.6%).
The total number of employees also reached a new high in 2023. The Group has over 9,000 employees worldwide, more than 1,500 of whom work in research and development departments at the five locations in the Lake Constance region as well as increasingly in the foreign technical companies. In addition, over 140 trainees are currently employed throughout Germany at the various locations in Essen, Siegen and Lake Constance.
The business outlook for the current financial year is not quite as positive, as von Rosenberg emphasizes: "The various global conflicts and crises are leading to an overall slowdown in the global mechanical engineering industry. In addition, the measures taken by central banks to curb inflation continue to hamper demand. We are not immune to this and must plan accordingly. However, we expect growth momentum in the second half of the year in particular, so we currently anticipate slight growth in 2024."
