Programmable 5-axis milling machines can mill workpieces in almost any shape from a block of material. The prerequisite for this is that the rotation and feed speed of the milling machine must be set manually in advance. Marc Engelhardt (20), Jannik Münz (17) and Lukas Bohnacker (16) developed a control system that automatically adapts these parameters to the respective machining situation and the degree of wear on the tool. This reduces tool wear by up to 80 %.
