Security study by Bitkom51 billion euros in damage due to cyber attacks

In the last two years, every second company in the German industry has been the target of cyber attacks - according to Bitkom, the damage amounts to 51 billion euros per year. Who are the victims and who are the perpetrators? How badly is the mechanical and plant engineering sector affected?

On the point "Technical IT security precautions": Although this is good basic protection, it is rarely comprehensive enough. All companies surveyed use virus scanners, firewalls and password protection for computers and other communication devices. These functions are regularly included in common operating systems. As malware is becoming increasingly complex, it is no longer detected in time. As many as four out of five companies encrypt their network connections. In contrast, not even half of companies encrypt their data on hard disks or other data carriers. Only 40% use encryption for email traffic.
