Siemens at the SPS 2024

Andrea Gillhuber,

New IPC range with Nvidia technologies

Siemens has announced the launch of a new range of industrial PCs equipped with Nvidia graphics processors. Together with an extended AI tool suite as part of the Industrial Operations X portfolio, these IPCs are designed to significantly accelerate industrial AI applications.

The newly introduced Siemens IPCs are Nvidia-certified systems and ready for a wide range of applications developed with Nvidia NIM microservices and edge AI frameworks such as NVIDIA Isaac ROS, Holoscan and Metropolis. These IPCs are designed to withstand the rigors of industrial environments while remaining compact enough to ensure reliability and longevity.

In addition to no-code tools for integrating, managing and executing industrial AI solutions, the Industrial Operations X portfolio also includes ready-to-use AI applications. For example, Simatic Robot Pick AI, accelerated by Nvidia, enables OT users with no AI skills to create AI-driven piece-picking robotic solutions for critical warehouse automation needs. In addition, Siemens Industrial Copilot for Operations, powered by Nvidia NIM Microservices, runs completely locally and enables automation and maintenance technicians to query real-time operational and document data to make quick decisions and reduce machine downtime.

The new IPCs

The new devices include the embedded IPC 'Simatic BX-35A', a powerful and compact device based on the Nvidia Jetson Orin NX Systems-on-Modules (SoMs), which enables AI calculations in an energy-efficient and fanless design. Other NVIDIA-based models include the Simatic IPC RW-545A (high-performance workstation), Simatic IPC RS-828A (high-performance server for production data centers) and Simatic IPC BX-59A (modular high-performance box PC).

The 'Simatic IPC BX-59A' provides a comprehensive end-to-end solution for the seamless and powerful integration, management and execution of AI applications in industrial environments. Together with Siemens' robust GPU-accelerated AI Inference Server, based on Nvidia's Triton Inference Server, customers can implement and run AI models in industrial environments without programming skills. By combining the GPU-accelerated AI Inference Server with the Simatic BX-59A as an edge device, Siemens has measured a 25x speed-up in AI execution on the shop floor.

All Simatic IPCs can be ordered with the Siemens operating system 'Simatic Industrial OS', a real-time operating system based on Debian. The pre-installed Nvidia AI software enables rapid implementation of AI applications.
