Hewlett Packard Enterprise

Lukas Dehling,

New IoT solutions and partnership

At the Discover customer conference in Las Vegas, Hewlett Packard Enterprise presented new systems for the IoT - designed for use in remote regions. A partnership is to support the company on its way into the IoT.

The 'Edgeline EL1000' and 'Edgeline EL4000' systems presented in Las Vegas were designed for use in remote locations - for example in industries such as oil, manufacturing or telecommunications. Even there, decisions have to be made on the basis of data. Until now, data collected on site has typically been transferred to data centers or the cloud - but this can be a lengthy, risky and inefficient process.

The new IoT systems collect, monitor, process and store data in 'things'. They should allow companies to use their data directly on site for real-time analysis and machine learning. According to Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), they also offer high-performance data analysis and thus enable real-time decisions. The systems include compute, storage, data acquisition and system and device management. HPE also announces the availability of the analytics platform 'HPE Vertica' on 'Edgeline EL4000', which enables, for example, historical and predictive analytics and machine learning. To ensure secure data transmission to the data center, the devices support the VPN client 'Virtual Intranet AccessTM' from Aruba.

Strategic partnership with GE Digital

To combine HPE's IoT technologies with GE Digital's industry expertise and 'Predix' platform, HPE and GE announce a strategic partnership. Predix is GE's cloud-based Platform-as-a-Service for the Industrial Internet. As part of the agreement, HPE will become the preferred partner for storage and server infrastructure for Predix cloud technology. HPE will also support GE Digital in the design, implementation and rollout of the 'Predix' platform to further improve the service offering and time to market.

HPE also announced the opening of four IoT Innovation Labs in Houston (USA), Geneva (Switzerland), Bangalore (India) and Singapore. IoT use cases are to be demonstrated and tested there together with Intel.
