Embedded AI Applications without Discrete Accelerator Cards

Congatec's portfolio includes Computer-on-Modules (COMs) with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. The new high-performance modules accelerate next-generation AI applications with up to 180 TOPS of energy-efficient embedded compute performance, making discrete accelerator cards superfluous in most applications, according to the provider.

Five new modules across four form factors leverage the heterogeneous core architecture of Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors for local execution of natural language recognition, large language models (LLM), image classification, sensor fusion and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) in new and existing designs. The modules offer up to 16 cores with up to 10 TOPS, have an integrated NPU5 for low-power AI inference with up to 50 TOPS and can replace discrete AI accelerators with up to twelve Xe3 cores and a performance of around 120 TOPS. The new COM-HPC Mini and COM Express Mini (Type 10) modules are suitable for space-, weight- and energy-optimized small form factor designs.

Designs with the highest data throughput requirements with PCIe Gen 5 and USB 4, the COM-HPC mini module 'conga-HPC/mPTL' and COM-HPC client module 'conga-HPC/cPTL' offer extreme performance and I/O bandwidth, according to the provider. The 'conga-MC1000' is suitable as an upgrade for all existing mission-critical applications based on COM Express Type 10. The COM Express compact module 'conga-TC1000' is aimed specifically at cost-sensitive systems that require a technology upgrade, and the 'ruggedized conga-TC1000r' with bolted LPCAMM2 memory is intended for particularly robust applications.

All COMs utilize Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors based on Intel 18A and scale up to Intel Core Ultra X9 or X7 processors with up to four P-cores, up to eight E-cores and up to four LP-E cores. Developers can equip the modules with up to 96 Gbytes of soldered LPDDR5X memory or socketed LPCAMM2 memory on selected SKUs with optional in-band error correction code (ECC) for mission-critical applications. The integrated graphics with Intel Xe display engine supports up to three independent 6K displays. Supported operating systems include Microsoft Windows 11, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, ctrlX OS, Ubuntu Pro, Kontron OS, Linux and Yocto. As application-ready aReady.COMs, they can be pre-configured with licensed ctrlX OS, Ubuntu Pro and KontronOS. The aReady.VT option with integrated hypervisor-on-module enables developers to consolidate multiple workloads such as real-time control, HMI, AI and IoT gateway functions on just one module. For IIoT connectivity, Congatec offers aReady.IOT software building blocks that enable data exchange, remote maintenance and management of the module, carrier boards and peripherals as well as cloud connectivity if required.
