Günter Herkommer,

New version of the sercos monitor available

The user organization Sercos International has made a new version of the Sercos Monitor available as a free download at Hannover Messe 2016. The tool is designed to enable providers and users to analyze data traffic in Sercos III networks in detail.

The sercos timing display provides a very quick overview of the structure and timing behavior of the configured sercos communication cycle.

The new version of the tool, which is being continuously developed by the Steinbeis Transfer Center for Systems Engineering in Esslingen, supports the new features of Sercos version 1.3.1, as well as the recording and analysis of CIP safety telegrams, the S/IP protocol and hot-plug processes in a Sercos III network. Special highlights are the oscilloscope function and a graphic display of the Sercos timing.

The oscilloscope function can be used to visualize signals for simple analysis of value curves. The free configurability provides a wide range of application options. For example, process data such as torque and speed values can be graphically displayed individually or together.

Optimizations and improvements also affect the execution of long-term measurements in order to record and analyse sporadic errors more easily. Furthermore, additional monitoring functions (including communication phase changes, SVC timeouts and connection monitoring), extensions to the Telegram Expression Language for more precise definition of trigger and filter conditions, as well as extensions for the diagnostic trace have been implemented. The new version also makes it possible to export the sercos monitor configuration directly from the CoSeMa opensource driver. This eliminates the need to create the configuration of the sercos monitor based on a phase run-up.
