Inventors of the year 2019 have been announced

Siemens has named 23 researchers as "Inventors of the Year 2019". Their inventions range from a solution that allows older railroad lines to be electrified without major modifications to a postcard-sized module for industrial control systems that works with AI.

The scientists are responsible for a total of around 1,450 inventions and 1,500 individual patents granted. The majority of the inventors come from Germany, with others from the USA, Russia, China, the UK, Spain, Italy and Romania.

Since 1995, Siemens has presented the award annually to outstanding researchers and developers at the company whose inventions have made a significant contribution to the company's success. Since 2016, the award has also been presented to researchers outside the company. In fiscal year 2019, Siemens filed around 3,750 patents worldwide. In total, the company holds over 68,000 granted patents. Employees reported 6,850 inventions during this period - based on 220 working days, that's around 31 inventions per day. In 2018, Siemens filed the most patents of any company in Europe, making it the frontrunner in the European Patent Office's applicant ranking.
