E-mobility in industrial robotics: the winner of the Robotics Award 2013, Kuka Roboter from Augsburg, wants to make this flexibility possible. The company has combined an industrial robot with an electric vehicle. As it can move freely in space without cable connections, large components can be processed flexibly and autonomously. Newly developed navigation software maneuvers the system through the tightest of spaces. The vehicle can be operated for up to six hours at a time using a lead battery and a converter. As the robot is mobile, there is no need to transport large components to an automated robot processing station.
