Last year, nobody was talking about USB 3.0. In 2011, USB 3.0 is becoming a trendsetter at Vision: with its high bandwidth and the decision by Intel and AMD to integrate four USB 3.0 ports into their chipsets, USB 3.0 is becoming an interesting interface for camera manufacturers. Two suppliers, IDS and Basler, presented the first prototypes with a USB 3.0 interface. IDS demonstrated its readiness for use using an application with 8 uEye cameras. Cascaded via three hubs, the smart cameras transfer a total of 250 MBytes of data per second to the PC via a single USB 3.0 cable.
