In the first half of 2012, a total of around 460 MW were dismantled in repowering projects and replaced by over 1,000 MW. According to BWE President Hermann Albers, the age of the wind turbines provides an indication of the great repowering potential: "Today, there are around 13,750 turbines with an output of around 12,000 megawatts in operation that were installed before January 1, 2002. These turbines are eligible for repowering under the 2012 Renewable Energy Sources Act," explains Albers.
