In future, the new Collision Avoidance function will enable Sinumerik controllers to avoid collisions between machine components in the machine tool's working area. In the first step, collision avoidance focuses on the most critical situations in practice, such as setting up the machine or when machining is interrupted - i.e. whenever the operator intervenes in the process. Real-time collision monitoring in 3D is designed to be effective even in complex machining operations such as 5-axis simultaneous milling or turning with B-axis, whereby static and moving machine components as well as the tool cutting edge are monitored for collisions.
