Lukas Braisz, Maximos Kairlas, Stefanie Birkenbach, Jan Hinrichs and Timo Singer (from left to right) from TU Darmstadt have developed
safety goggles for working on machines and won first place in the Cosima competition with prize money of 1,000 euros. The glasses establish communication between man and machine. Sensors on the temples and on the wings of the nose decide whether the glasses are being worn correctly. The resulting signal is used to remind the user to wear the safety goggles or to switch off a machine if necessary. The signal emitted by the goggles could also be used to prohibit access to certain equipment in a workshop, for example.
