For precise, linear movements in hygienically demanding environments, Kollmorgen has combined AKMH stainless steel servomotors with stainless steel actuators. With protection class IP69K, the ERD actuators provide the force density and overload capacity required for lifting applications or format adjustments in the packaging, food and pharmaceutical industries. The units, which are connected with just one cable, are available in 'inline' and 'reverse' designs, each with four sizes for feed forces from 0.89 to 20 kN. The feed speed is 1 m/s. The manufacturer cites the advantages of the system as being that electrically driven linear axes are more controllable, more energy-efficient, quieter and have a longer service life than pneumatic systems.
