Grammatech presents the enhanced version 4.1 of the code analysis software CodeSonar. New features include 64-bit binary analysis, distributed analysis and refined tainted data analysis. According to the company, the software is currently the only static analysis tool to offer binary analysis with platform compatibility for the 64-bit Intel microprocessor family. In addition, the tool can distribute the static analysis across a large number of heterogeneous computers. This capability not only accelerates the speed of analysis, but also gives developers the flexibility to increase the intensity of the analysis to detect more errors. Last but not least, the accuracy of the taint analysis has been increased and a completely new check for tainted buffer accesses has been introduced. The taint analysis algorithms can also be used to examine indirect function calls, which helps to detect serious security breaches such as the Heartbleed bug.
