The type 3 PSENopt II light curtains from Pilz enable applications of safety category Performance Level d (PL d). This light curtain type closes the 'type gap' in the revised version of IEC 61496-1, meaning it is no longer necessary to switch to type 4 if PL d is required. The IEC/EN 61496 standard for light barriers, light curtains and light grids only defines types 2 and 4: Following the amendment to the standard, type 2 light grids may only be used in applications with PL c, while type 4 light grids may still be used for PL e. Type 3, which was previously not available on the product side, is assigned to performance level d. The new light curtains offer a shock resistance of 50 g and, in addition to hand protection, finger protection up to PL d. They work with continuous individual beams, which completely eliminate the so-called 'dead zones' so that the light barriers can move closer to the application. The light grids can be used flexibly with the corresponding mounting aids and, according to the manufacturer, are easy to install. Thanks to their 5-pin connection, they can be connected directly to the decentralized periphery 'PDP67'.
