RSS 36 safety sensor from Schmersal

The 'RSS 36' from K.A. Schmersal is an electronic safety sensor with flexible mounting options and high tamper resistance. Thanks to secure RFID technology, users can choose between three different coding variants. In the basic version, the sensor accepts any suitable target. A second version only accepts the target that was taught in when the sensor was first switched on. In a third version, the teach-in process can be repeated as often as required. Schmersal offers a new option for the RSS 36-AS version, which is equipped with an integrated interface for AS-Interface Safety at Work (AS-i SaW): In addition to the safety function "Safety guard detected", the safety sensor can also use RFID technology to distinguish between up to 15 actuators. This differentiation is operational, i.e. not safety-related. Such a dual function of the safety sensor is desirable in modular machine concepts, for example, in the case of labeling units in packaging machines that are replaced when the product is changed. In the first step, the presence of a new labeling unit is reliably detected, while in the second step, the parameter ports of the ASi safety sensor can be used to identify and assign different units in terms of operation.
