Functional safety plays a decisive role in industry and automotive engineering in order to prevent danger to machine and system operators as well as vehicle users as far as possible. For this reason, the development of safety-critical systems must be carried out in accordance with the relevant standards - from IEC 61508 as the overarching standard to specialist standards such as ISO 13849, ISO 26262 or IEC 61511. With the networking of machines and production facilities under the heading of "Industry 4.0", these systems must also be protected with extensive measures against sabotage, hacker attacks or even espionage, summarized under the term "security". The same applies to vehicles - already the most complex nodes in the IoT; they must also be protected against data manipulation.

We are doing justice to this and are once again organizing the interdisciplinary "Safety & Security Forum" in July 2017. Here, experts will give presentations on the individual topics of safety and security as well as the interaction of both aspects from the perspective of the industrial and automotive application sectors and provide answers to all pressing security questions. The lecture program will cover everything from the available hardware and software components, tools, aids and certification to the practical use of safe systems in production and in the automobile. Accordingly, the presentations will provide clearly structured information for developers of hardware and software components as well as for integrators and end users from the mechanical and plant engineering sector, for example.

And for the automotive industry, questions relating to safety and security with regard to in-vehicle networking and Car2x communication will be discussed and networking architectures, bus systems, multimedia, protocols and system architectures will be scrutinized.
