Security study by Bitkom51 billion euros in damage due to cyber attacks
In the last two years, every second company in the German industry has been the target of cyber attacks - according to Bitkom, the damage amounts to 51 billion euros per year. Who are the victims and who are the perpetrators? How badly is the mechanical and plant engineering sector affected?

... the close corporate environment. In fact, current and former employees are the largest group of perpetrators. This fits in with Bitkom's findings on social engineering: according to the digital association, the acts are not always carried out with malicious intent. Rather, carelessness, cluelessness and ignorance are the biggest problems. The association therefore advises that employees should always be involved in the topic of corporate security. The direct business environment also includes competitors, suppliers, service providers and customers. The latter three in particular often have direct access and are familiar with the company's internal circumstances. This makes it easier for the perpetrators to carry out an attack. Only 17% of companies name hobby hackers as perpetrators, and only 11% are victims of organized gang crime.
