Security study by Bitkom51 billion euros in damage due to cyber attacks
In the last two years, every second company in the German industry has been the target of cyber attacks - according to Bitkom, the damage amounts to 51 billion euros per year. Who are the victims and who are the perpetrators? How badly is the mechanical and plant engineering sector affected?

According to the Bitkom survey, IT attacks are part of everyday life for many companies: Three out of four are the target of IT attacks or data theft or sabotage to an under-damaging degree. Almost half (45%) are attacked regularly - i.e. at least once a month. Almost one in ten companies (9%) are even attacked daily. The larger the company, the more frequently it is attacked. The majority of attacks are fended off by companies with firewalls or virus scanners. On the other hand, according to Bitkom, many attacks remain undetected. Sophisticatedly programmed malware is no longer detected by normal virus scanners. According to the digital association, the basic protection integrated into common operating systems is inadequate.
