ABB has released 'RoboMasters' - a training app that allows users to flexibly learn how to program and operate ABB robots.

"With more than four million industrial robots in use worldwide, finding qualified personnel for robotic automation is becoming a critical competitive factor for companies - from manufacturing to retail," emphasizes Michael Hose, Head of Business Line Customer Service at ABB Robotics. "Our RoboMasters app is a flexible and cost-effective training tool. Companies and individuals can use it to acquire the necessary knowledge to fully learn and master the operation of robots."

For many companies looking to invest in robotics, building in-house expertise can be a hurdle. In a global survey by ABB Robotics of 1,650 users in the US, UK, China, Germany, Sweden, Italy and Switzerland, 34% of respondents said that lack of knowledge and concerns about complexity were barriers to using robots. 29% of them would reconsider their decision if training were available.

Over 25,000 people take part in ABB's robotics training courses held at 40 training centers worldwide every year. The 'RoboMasters' app builds on this classroom training. According to ABB, it is easy to use and allows users to create and manage individual learning paths. The app is designed for everyone and for all levels of knowledge. It can be flexibly adapted for a personalized learning experience - flanked by videos with practical tips, feeds and a community function that enables discussions and exchanges with other users and trainers.

Interactive and social learning

The training material, which is available in over 50 languages, has been prepared in various formats for knowledge transfer, for example in the form of interactive lessons, simulations and tests. To intensify engagement and interaction, the app also uses social learning methods, including gamification, competitions, rewards and rankings. As with ABB's classroom training courses, users receive a certificate after completing all modules within a course unit. This serves as proof of qualification for programming and operating ABB robots.
For companies, the use of the app also has the advantage that they can reduce the costs and work interruptions associated with attending classroom training courses - especially if their sites are not located near an ABB training center.

The app can also be used as a refresher: People who have attended ABB's classroom courses can revisit and develop their knowledge with the materials and learning features provided. This brings additional added value for companies, as they make the best possible use of their original investment in attending the training courses. At the same time, former participants can be kept up to date with the latest developments.
