SPS - smart production solutions

Meinrad Happacher,

The 'Automation 4.0 Summit' - register now!

Security, 5G plus TSN and OPC UA, IoT platforms and automation with robots: the 'Automation 4.0 Summit', the congress accompanying the SPS trade fair, is dedicated to these four exciting topics this year.

The 'Automation 4.0 Summit' accompanying the trade fair offers four topic slots on the first two days of the fair.

The thematic blocks of the 'Automation 4.0 Summit' will each take place in two parallel tracks: On the 1st day of the trade fair, the topics "5G, TSN and OPC UA in industry " and "Securely connected - from the sensor to the cloud" will be covered. Day 2 of the trade fair will focus on the topics of "IoT platforms - best practices" and "Flexible automation - what can robotics do?".

  • Session 1 "5G, TSN and OPC UA in industry" will focus on OPC UA in conjunction with the real-time Ethernet variant TSN. The session will provide answers to the following questions: What still needs to be done in terms of standardization? How quickly can TSN establish itself in the factory? How far has the FLC work at the OPC Foundation progressed? What do machine builders and end users need to demand? How far have the automation companies already come with corresponding products? And finally, what role will the 5G mobile communications standard play in the future?
  • Session 2 "Securely connected - from the sensor to the cloud" will shed light on the tension between security and costs. How much security can you afford, how much do you have to afford? And what role does OPC UA, for example, play in ensuring a free yet protected data flow? In addition to these questions, one of the presentations will also address the interdependence between security and safety, as functional security cannot be guaranteed if the system is vulnerable.
  • Session 3 "IoT Platforms - Best Practices" will show which IoT platforms are needed in mechanical engineering. Which IoT service is better off in the cloud or on site in the factory - at the edge. How IoT applications can be developed more quickly and how the topic of multicloud should be approached. Ultimately, the session will get to the bottom of the question of where the user benefits of IoT platforms actually lie.
  • Session 4 "Flexible automation for little money - what can robotics do?" will take an in-depth look at collaborative robotics and the challenges that need to be overcome for humans and machines. Important topics here are the operation and networking of collaborative robots and the supposed contradiction between flexibility and safety. The diversity of HRC applications will be vividly illustrated in the session using practical examples.

Trade fair and congress combined

To enable one-day visitors to SPS to attend both the trade fair and the 'Automation 4.0 Summit', the congress event will not start until 10:30 a.m. and will end at around 3 p.m.. This means that there are still just under five hours available for a visit to the trade fair despite attending the congress.

The summit is aimed at specialists and managers from the manufacturing industry, technical management, sales and service of mechanical engineering companies as well as product management, sales and technical management of automation technology companies.

The Automation 4.0 Summit is organized by WEKA FACHMEDIEN.

Location: Exhibition Center Nuremberg, NCC Ost
Date: November 26 and 27, 2019
