Scalable integration of machine data in IIOT applications

The digitalization and networking of systems forms the basis for optimized production. But how can it be implemented smoothly? How can data exchange between machines and systems, OT/IT integration and cloud connectivity be designed securely and flexibly?

The software modules from the edgeConnector product family enable access to process and machine data in controllers and form the basis for various typical IIoT applications such as OEE, predictive maintenance and machine learning. edgeConnector Siemens supports direct access to the Siemens SIMATIC S7-300/400 and S7-1200/1500 controllers and enables access to production data via the integrated OPC UA server interface and the MQTT interface for data acquisition, analysis and predictive maintenance. With edgeConnector 840D, process parameters and drive data can be read out from Siemens SINUMERIK 840D Solution Line and Power Line controllers and edgeConnector Modbus is suitable for Modbus TCP controllers, e.g. from Schneider Electric, Wago, Beckhoff or Phoenix Contact.

Siemens Industrial Edge is an open software platform that provides IT for manufacturing applications. Softing has developed the edgePlug product family to provide these applications with efficient and secure access to control and machine data. The Linux-based Docker containers are fully integrated into Siemens Industrial Edge and are available via the Siemens Industrial Edge Marketplace.

Use device and sensor data for monitoring and optimization

smartLink offers easy access to field device data

With the products in the smartLink family - smartLink HW-DP and smartLink SW-HT - users can access field devices independently of the controller and use device and sensor data in comprehensive IT applications.
This applies to existing systems with HART or fieldbus installations as well as to new projects that use Industrial Ethernet. Depending on the type of communication, data is exchanged via a pure software solution or via a hardware gateway. The smartLink products are used in parallel with the control system and can be integrated during operation without having to adapt the network. smartLink makes the recorded process data available via the open industry standards OPC UA, MQTT, HART IP and FDT/DTM for further processing, for example in monitoring and optimization applications. This enables the digitalization of existing and new systems and the implementation of future IIoT challenges without affecting communication in the core process.

OPC UA Server Aggregation and Information Model Management

Secure OT/IT integration based on OPC UA

The integration of production and management levels in edge and cloud applications can quickly become complex when the number of data sources increases and security requirements need to be met. This is where Softing's Secure Integration Server and container-based edgeAggregator come into play. The products help with data management by aggregating data from different sources into a central server and providing a secure and flexible integration layer based on OPC UA.

All of Softing 's connectivity products combine innovative technology with a high degree of product maturity and guarantee reliable and secure operation in complex production environments. Users can efficiently solve the distribution, update and configuration of connectivity centrally and as part of their comprehensive IIoT operating concept. In many cases, no special hardware is required, as the products can be used easily and flexibly on standard hardware or as part of cluster solutions. The products support open standards and standard protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT and httpREST. This opens up a wide range of possibilities for the secure integration of machine and device data into IT applications and enables seamless integration into the IIoT reference architectures of large cloud platforms.
