Siemens patent applicationsInventors of the year 2019 have been announced
Siemens has named 23 researchers as "Inventors of the Year 2019". Their inventions range from a solution that allows older railroad lines to be electrified without major modifications to a postcard-sized module for industrial control systems that works with AI.

A new AI module for industrial control systems is only the size of a postcard. Thanks to artificial intelligence, it is revolutionizing automation on factory floors. A team of inventors from the Factory Automation and Corporate Technology business unit has developed a module that enables customers to operate their own neural network in the industrial control system. The module can be used almost anywhere and is simply plugged into the Simatic controllers on the factory floor. It is designed to be compatible with a wide range of sensors and cameras. This allows the data to be analyzed directly and the result transmitted to the controller. It is also possible to use the real-time data from the controller for analysis. One example is an application with an autonomous robot. An algorithm uses data from a 3D camera on the robot arm to calculate the optimum gripping points of any object in front of it. The team includes Heiko Claussen, Norman Drews, Dr. Josep Soler Garrido, Dr. Ingo Thon, Johannes Frank, Andreas Macher and Renè Fischer.
