The PowerGrid technology from Cognex enables 2D codes to be read even if the code is not visibly limited. According to the manufacturer, the solution approach of a texture-based localization algorithm enables 2D matrix and directly marked DPM codes to be quickly detected in their environment, precisely localized and decoding accelerated. The texture analysis image processing algorithm refers to geometric properties of image features within the local environment of the live image. While conventional commonly used feature-based ID image processing algorithms begin by locating the search pattern, PowerGrid technology searches for a pattern of alternating light and dark modules within the code and reads from the inside out. Reliable code reading is achieved even if the shape of the parts, poor lighting, obscuration or print registration errors make it difficult to capture an image of the full code. Codes can be localized and read quickly and accurately even if they are badly damaged or if search patterns, clocking patterns or quiet zones are missing. The technology is available on all X models of the stationary barcode readers in the "DataMan 300" series.
