The Siemens Industry Automation Division has added two new CPUs to the Simatic S7-1500 controller generation first presented last year: firstly, the CPU 1515-2 PN for medium-sized machine and plant automation applications. This controller has a user memory of 3.5 MByte (500 kilobyte for program memory and 3 MByte for data), is equipped with two Profinet interfaces and has a bit performance of 30 nanoseconds. Secondly, the CPU 1518-4PN/DP, the most powerful controller for high-end applications to date, will be launched on the market in 2014. It has a user memory of 13 MByte and is equipped with four communication interfaces: a Profinet interface with 2-port switch for communication at field level, two Profinet interfaces and a Profibus interface. The CPU enables the connection of up to 128 drive axes and their clock-synchronous operation in the 250-microsecond range. The bit performance is 1 nanosecond.
