Running robot coach from runfun

The Oberpfaffenhofen Application Center awarded third place in the 'Esa Bic Start-up Award' category to the company Runfun from Landsberg am Lech. Its development is an automated running coach for people who want to improve their fitness. The electrically powered vehicle has rigid axles and drives in front of the runner like a pacemaker. The speed depends on the runner's individual heart rate: if the heart rate is too high, 'Rufus' slows down, if it is too low, 'Rufus' speeds up. The vehicle moves independently and does not need to be pushed or steered. As with a treadmill, the jogger is connected to the vehicle via a safety line. If this connection is released, the device brakes immediately and stops.
