One of the finalists of the Kuka Innovation Award 2015 is the so-called 'Apple' project (Autonomous Picking and Palletizing) from the Center for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS) at Örebro University in Sweden. The application provides a solution for the logistics sector. To this end, the team developed a mobile handling system into which the lightweight robot LBR iiwa was integrated, enabling it to independently pick up empty pallets and navigate them autonomously to a desired location in the factory. Once there, LBR iiwa uses an innovative infeed gripper to gradually pick up the requested products from a full pallet and place them on the empty pallet.
