The 'Catch' project team from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) presented the catching of irregularly shaped flying objects in Hanover. LBR iiwa is equipped with a gripper hand and programmed to catch an object that is thrown at it. The hand-arm system is adapted to the trajectory at lightning speed during the catching process, as otherwise the thrown objects would simply jump out of the palm of the hand before the robot can close its fingers.
