With the RSS 16 safety sensor from Schmersal, target identification is contactless; the sensor does not have a mechanical actuator. RFID technology forms the basis for this. The safety sensor enables a high tolerance for door misalignment by transmitting an electronic warning signal when the misalignment limits are reached before the machine is switched off. The RFID sensors thus provide information that can be used for preventive maintenance. Another feature of the sensor is the ability to approach the target from three sides, allowing the sensor to be integrated into a wide variety of assembly situations. The safety sensor can also be used as a magnetic stop, meaning that the designer can dispense with a separate stop with detent. Thanks to its similar design and identical dimensions, the safety sensor can replace the electromechanical safety switch 'AZ 16' without having to change the surrounding construction.
