Flying like a bird: until now, this approach has often failed due to the complex motion sequence. At the Hannover Messe, Festo presented an artificial flying model that moves independently by flapping its wings, just like its living model - the herring gull. The on-board electronics enable precise control of the wings. In addition, the control parameters can be set and optimized in real time. The flapping and turning sequence is controlled in milliseconds. According to Festo, the electromechanical efficiency is up to 45% and the aerodynamic efficiency up to 80%.
