Empire Robotics from Boston won first place in the Automatica product award for its
'Versaball Gripper'. The gripping system is based on a radically new, extremely flexible method for gripping and moving objects. A balloon-like, elastic structure filled with granules encloses a wide variety of shapes and structures. By sucking the air out of the balloon, it solidifies around the object to form a secure gripper.
