This year's Vision Award 2011 went to a 3D system from the AIT - Austrian Institute of Technology. Its embedded 3D Vision research group has developed a special 3D scanner which, together with industrial partner a-tron 3D, has been converted into a compact format for dental treatment. The 3D scanner replaces impressions and plaster models in the production of dentures. Thanks to its software, the stereo images can be processed in real time. This makes the technology equally interesting for robots with precise vision or for quantity recording and quality control in production.
