Matthias Becker (19) from Andernach was awarded the "Prize for Robotics in the Department of Mathematics / Computer Science" for his mechanical measuring machine: using Lego technology and a mini-computer, he developed a measuring robot that uses light sensors to measure surface contours. The special thing about it is that the robot operates completely autonomously, meaning it does not need to be remote-controlled or guided by hand. The jury was also impressed by the precision: on average, the mechanical measuring machine can determine the content of a surface with up to 97% accuracy.
